Bio
Michelle Sales, born in Chicago, IL is a contemporary artist who splits her time between her studios in Winfied, IL and Sedona, AZ. Sales, a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is a mixed-media artist whose works primarily include two-dimensional and sculptural work. Sales is currently a working artist, curator and educator.
Artist Statement
I find the myriad states of dissolution captivating. Beauty and loss are often interconnected with the relentless passing of time. Utilizing personal memory, found images, objects, and paint, two and three-dimensional work emerges. Fragments of man-made and natural materials are manipulated, scorched, and sewn together generating eroded figures, while images created on Venetian plaster are often sanded away leaving behind a worn and weathered surface. Materiality, grace, and reflection are common threads that bind my work.
